Frequently Asked Questions about temporary business car insurance
Q. Do I need business car insurance?
Q. Am I covered for business travel on my annual car insurance policy?
Not necessarily. If you usually only commute to one place of work, an office for example, then your insurance policy likely only covers you for your commute and won’t automatically cover you if you need to drive somewhere else for business.
Q. Can I get insurance to share the drive for a work or business trip?
Q. How do I insure myself on someone else's car?
Adding yourself to someone else's annual policy would likely increase the premium they pay and could attract a fee for changing their policy. If you were to claim on the policy, it could also impact their No Claims Discount.
A simpler solution could be to take out an RAC Temporary Car Insurance policy. Our short-term policies cover business use and allow you to insure yourself on someone else's car within 15 minutes. Cover is comprehensive as standard, and if you need to make a claim it won't impact the NCD of the car's owner.
Q. Would a separate temporary business car insurance policy be cheaper than adding business use to my annual policy?
Q. What’s the difference between business use and commercial use?
Business use is if you’re using your car to travel to different places of work, for example if you're a sales agent or a doctor.
Commercial use is for when your car forms a key part of your job, such as a courier or taxi driver - our policies don’t cover the transport of goods or people for hire or reward. RAC offer insurance for commercial use.
Q. Can I get temporary car insurance for business use to drive in Europe?
Q. Is there a limit to the number of times I can take out a temporary business car insurance policy in a year?
